Meet Our Maple Member: Harry Yang, Skyclass Information Limited (International Education & AI)

Every few months we welcome multiple international startups to Vancouver, as they begin Phase 3 of our Maple Program. In an ongoing Maple Member series, we interview our newest Canadians about their experience with Launch and Canada so far.

Although we aren’t able to physically welcome our newest Phase 3 companies to Canada, given the current travel restrictions caused by COVID-19, we are excited to introduce them to you as we continue to run this part of the program virtually.

As the Director of Skyclass Information Limited, Harry (Hai) Yang has 20 years of experience combined in the learning management systems, online training, and international education industries. He began his professional training with a Bachelor’s degree in science followed by a Master’s degree in Education from Nanjing University. Most recently, after nearly 20 years of hands-on work experience, he went on to receive his Master of Business Administration and Management from the University of Canterbury.

Harry knew he was meant to be an entrepreneur when he realized that he could use his aptitude for solving problems in innovative ways to change the world. This realization led him to start his own company, Skyclass.

Skyclass is implementing artificial intelligence (AI) within social networking apps to further international education. Skyclass’ products crawl university websites all over the world, grab updated site information, and translate excerpts into multiple different languages that are eventually stored in their database. Prospective students and their families can then access this translated information in their native languages when planning overseas studies. The students and their families are able to ask questions to Skyclass’ bots and receive immediate answers.

Harry’s dream for Skyclass is to be the leader of AI in the International Education sector. Soon after completing a few courses of his MBA program in New Zealand, Harry realized that settling in Vancouver would give him access to the North American market — where he would be able to reach more investors, IT talent, and universities — but be a part of an emerging technology ecosystem that would help him to become that industry leader.

Since joining Launch in 2019, Harry has enjoyed the program and overall experience. He recommends that anybody who is considering expanding their technology business to Vancouver needs to check out the Maple Program.

If you are in the International Education / AI spaces and want to connect with Harry, you can add him on LinkedIn.
